Periwinkle and Apple Green Nutcracker Dress for the Party Scene

This Clara Party Scene Dress was based on Nutcracker Costume Style 724 and made in a beautiful combination of Periwinkle and Apple Green silk. The customer wanted something colorful for Clara without getting away from the traditional feeling of the Party Scene. Periwinkle gave the dress a soft blue-purple base, while Apple Green added a brighter contrast that made the dress stand out nicely on stage.

Style 724 is part of our Nutcracker Collection for the Clara Party Scene Dresses and has the kind of traditional look that works very well for this part of *The Nutcracker Ballet*. Clara is attending a Christmas party with her family, so her dress should look like a special party dress rather than simply a ballet costume. That is one of the reasons we like this style so much for Clara.

The combination of Periwinkle and Apple Green gave this particular dress a completely different look. Periwinkle is soft enough to keep Clara looking young, while the Apple Green adds some life to the costume and helps pick up the details from a distance. It is an unusual combination, but the two colors worked very well together and gave the dress its own personality.

The customer also requested what we call our Sutash back. The back of Clara's dress is very important because the audience sees it throughout so much of the Party Scene as she moves around the stage. This particular back gave the customer another way to customize Style 724 instead of changing the basic design of the dress.

We have since changed the way we make this option and now offer a dye-to-match triple hook-and-eye back for an additional $35. Dyeing the closure to coordinate with the dress gives the back a cleaner finished appearance and keeps the closure from becoming the thing you notice. It is a small detail, but on a stage costume those little details can make a big difference in the finished look.

One of the things we have always liked about Style 724 is how much the personality of the dress can change simply by choosing different silk colors and a few custom options. Here, Periwinkle and Apple Green gave Clara a fresh color combination, while the special back added another detail specifically requested by the customer. The result was still very much Style 724, but it was made for this particular Clara and her production.
