The Toast:
"Thank you for joining Alycia and I tonight in this celebration. To those of you who have heard me speak before, you know what's coming...to those that haven't, my sincere apologies as I can be verbose. Alycia and I would like to express our love for our children and thank them for putting up with us these last few days. To Ed, Andrea, Aidan, Steve, and Amanda, thank you for your love and support tonight. To all of our friends from near and far, thank you for being here. I'd like to take a moment to thank Alycia for all her diligent and hard work in making tonight a special night for both of us. There is no doubt in my heart or mind that she put all her love into each detail of this event, and it did not go unnoticed. 393 days ago, this bright star of a woman came into my life and it has not been the same since. In that time, she has filled my heart with love, my life with joy, and my soul with passion.
With three small words, Alycia returned my faith in finding true love. Thank you. My granddad, married for 38 years to my grand mom, gave me two great pieces of advice about life: the first being the difference between "smart" & "wise" and the second was insight about his longevity of marriage. He explained to me that a dumb man makes a mistake over & over again, never learning from it; that a smart man makes a mistake and learns from it, never to make it again; and that a wise man learns from the mistakes of others and never makes them. His other piece of advice came one day as we talked while he was making my grand mom something for their 38th anniversary. I asked how he had been married so long and he replied, "It's simple. I married someone far above myself and always remembered to keep her there." So, to you Alycia, please forgive me when I am occasionally dumb in my actions, as I will you. I promise to be at wise and, at worst, smart, focusing on the important things in life. And I ask the rest of you to joining me in toasting Alycia, as tonight I followed my granddad's advice and truly married someone far above myself, whom I will keep there for the rest of my days in words, deeds, and thoughts. To the bride..."
